About Us

Our Team

“Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.”- Helen Keller

This is Mohanraj Anna. One of Ethicus's first handloom weavers. He joined us at the Ethicus Studio in 2008 & in just a few years, he grew to be our technical head & manager.

They say, handlooms have a language of their own & there are very few who understand it completely. Mohanraj anna is a 'Loom Whisperer'. With more than 40years of experience, he understands the handloom like no one else we know. We go to him with an idea, he translates it onto the loom into fabric.

He is a wonderful teacher & has mentored so many design students at our studio with his technical know how. He is a core member of our team & we are so proud to have him with us.

This happy photo is of the most camera-shy person in our studio- Krishnaveni or Krishna as we call her

She has every design number & product price in memory & it’s sometimes faster to get details by calling her than checking through a price list! We lovingly call her our ‘Computer’. She is meticulous & multifaceted.

She packs in as much activity in a day, than most people would in 2 days. She manages all our inventory, is the photographer of all our product shoots on our website and has now learnt to use design software too!

If you have bought any products from us, she is the one who corresponds with you & tracks all your parcels.

She is one of the 4 pillars of our team & we are so fortunate to have her with us.

“Without understanding the cotton industry – and by that we mean farming business structures and farm techniques - we can’t fully appreciate what we are doing and where we want to go as outspoken proponents of a more “conscious” textile or design industry. Leading us by example are Mr. Mani Chinnaswamy and his wife, Ms. Vijayalakshmi Nachiar, of Appachi Cotton and Ethicus.”

- Yoshiko Iwamoto Wada (renowned textile scholar and promoter of traditional textiles), World Shibori Network (www.shibori.org)
