The Collection: Chikankari by Ethicus
Inspiration: Floral trellis and paisley butis.
The Story Behind the Saree:
Chikankari, has had a long & rich history which involved very minute intricate embroidery on translucent fine cotton muslins. Its exquisite craftsmanship reached unsurpassed heights in the 18th and 19th centuries. It epitomised the best and ultimate refinement of Nawabi and Lucknawi culture.
Inspired by the Mughals love for flowers, the designs were mainly motifs of floral trellis and paisley butis.
The embroidery in this sari is done on Fine Organic Cotton handwoven at the Ethicus Studio. To maintain the rich weaving heritage of the South, borders with gold & silver threads and Pallu’s woven with the traditional ‘Korvai’ techniques were used.
It has taken the artisans of Ruth…. months to embroider this sari.
Chikankari by Ethicus is an attempt to make traditional Chikan work more contemporary by adding colour to the sari & embroidering floral motifs in multi colour threads giving it an unique & distinct look.
